Project Overview:

This project is designed to clean up, stabilize, and future-proof our website. Whether built on Wix, WordPress, or another platform, learners will conduct a full audit, resolve common issues, improve

performance, and leave behind clear documentation for future maintenance. This work is ideal for small organizations needing to bring their site to a stronger baseline with limited internal resources.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

Project Scope & Expectations:


Learners will engage in:

  • Conducting a site-wide audit for errors, broken links, and outdated plugins
  • Fixing minor bugs, navigation issues, and formatting inconsistencies
  • Improving basic performance such as page load speed and image sizing
  • Verifying or establishing basic site security and backup systems
  • Creating a maintenance guide and offering final recommendations


Project Timeline & Deliverables:

Week 1: Onboarding & Maintenance Needs Assessment (~2 hours per learner)

  • Introductions and review of project goals, timelines, and tools
  • Review the existing website, backend tools, and active plugins
  • Interview staff to understand recurring issues and key maintenance concerns

Week 2: Error & Link Fixes (~4 hours per learner)

  • Identify and resolve broken links, missing images, or navigation problems
  • Clean up outdated pages, content, or site elements no longer in use

Deliverable: Site Fixes Log (Before/After List of changes made)

Week 3: Plugin & Update Management (~6 hours per learner)

  • Identify outdated plugins, CMS versions, or third-party integrations
  • Perform safe updates and document any version control changes

Deliverable: Plugin & Update Documentation (includes current versions, update dates, and notes on impact)

Week 4: Performance & UX Cleanup (~6 hours per learner)

  • Compress images and remove large files affecting load speed
  • Adjust spacing, alignment, or mobile formatting issues

Deliverable: Site Speed & UX Optimization Report (summary of fixes and performance gains)

Week 5: Backups & Security Review (~6 hours per learner)

  • Confirm site backup protocols are active and functional
  • Review HTTPS, login protections, and install basic security plugins if missing

Deliverable: Backup & Security Checklist (includes system used, frequency, and recovery plan)

Week 6: Final Review & Maintenance Guide (~6 hours per learner)

  • Conduct a final review to confirm all identified issues have been addressed
  • Compile documentation and handoff materials for staff reference

Deliverables: Website Maintenance Guide (includes platform-specific instructions, troubleshooting steps) and Final Cleanup Report & Recommendations Summary

Learners are expected to receive practical real world job experience in exchange for completion of tangible deliverables of a successfully completed project. Employers are expected to provide

mentorship, guidance, and clear expectations to students and regular communication with the AscentUP team.
